Hunger.

He knocks just once at first, polite and refined. Standing still for only the few minutes he can take until he begins pacing, each step a furious expression of waiting, worrying, just fix it already he demands. Nothing. He starts to get furious as his patience evaporates he punches and kicks, thrashing at the door, rattling its foundation and making a raucous cacophony of screeches and whines.

His anger, his abandonment fills him up and begins reshaping him. He grows vicious teeth and bludgeoning appendages, looking as scary as he felt. With newfound strength and untethered rage he breaks the door down with one final offensive. Relief, a brief respite. It takes him but a moment to realize, yet another door has materialized…

So he knocks just once.
